Qatar's Ministry of Interior has published a list of 34 countries whose nationals can travel to the Gulf state without paying for a tourist visa. The list of eligible countries is dominated by European nations, occupying 31 of the 34 slots. Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, and Italy are among the countries whose citizens can benefit from the free visa offer. The visa is applied as a sticker directly onto the passport and carries no processing fee.
Only three countries outside of Europe qualify for the free 90-day tourist visa: Malaysia, Seychelles, and the Bahamas. The absence of African nations is notable, with Seychelles being the sole exception. Nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, along with the overwhelming majority of African passport holders, will need to pursue standard visa channels to enter Qatar as tourists.
In contrast, Qatar has a separate list of 47 countries whose citizens are eligible for a 30-day tourist visa. This multiple-entry visa allows eligible travellers to visit Qatar without paying a visa fee and can be extended for another 30 days. South Africa is the only African country included on this eligibility list, providing a valuable travel opportunity for its citizens.
To benefit from either visa offer, applicants must meet specific requirements. For the 90-day visa, travellers must have a confirmed return or onward ticket and a passport valid for at least six months. The visa cannot be extended after it is issued.
