Alkali described Odiakose as a dedicated journalist, trusted ally, and fellow compatriot. He said Odiakose's death was a huge loss to his family, the journalism profession, and Nigeria's political communication community.
According to Alkali, Odiakose had an accomplished career in journalism, working with reputable newspapers such as The Observer, Nigerian Pilot, and Daily Assets. He was a professional who distinguished himself through dedication, integrity, and commitment to factual reporting, particularly in his coverage of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Alkali noted that Odiakose's contributions to journalism and public affairs had created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
Alkali and Odiakose's relationship began during his tenure as PDP National Publicity Secretary between 2008 and 2012. Odiakose was among journalists who closely covered the activities of the party, standing out for his professionalism and constructive advice. Alkali recalled that when he was appointed Special Adviser, Political Affairs by former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in June 2014, he brought Odiakose into his team as his Media Aide, a decision he never regretted.
During his time as Media Aide, Odiakose demonstrated calmness, diligence, competence, and uncommon loyalty, providing valuable support in shaping media interventions and communication strategies. Alkali disclosed that Odiakose had recently been nominated to serve as a member of the National Movement for Tinubu-Shettima 2027 – Forward Nigeria. His death was a loss of a "jewel" to the organization.
Beyond his official duties, Alkali said Odiakose remained a trusted confidant and dependable ally after the 2015 presidential election. He described Odiakose as a man of humility, sincerity, and wisdom. The news of his passing came as a rude shock, especially at a time when Nigeria is approaching another important phase of its democratic journey.
