On September 29, 2026, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni arrived at Karuzika palace in Fort Portal City as the chief guest for the official installation of Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I as the Omukama of Tooro. The event marked a significant milestone in the history of the Tooro kingdom. Nyabongo's installation followed the passing of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died in the United States on August 27 while receiving cancer treatment.
The coronation service of Omukama Edward Rukidi began with prayers at St John’s Cathedral Kabarole, where he completed the final rituals leading to his accession to the royal throne. At 9:45 am, Nyabongo took his royal seat inside the church, accompanied by the singing of the Tooro kingdom anthem for the first time since the passing of the previous king. Nyabongo and thousands of his subjects walked about three kilometres through Fort Portal City to Karuziika Palace.
