Pride Bank, in partnership with MOGAS Uganda, has introduced a clean cooking financing initiative aimed at increasing access to affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly cooking solutions for institutions and households across Uganda. The initiative was officially launched at Vienna College, Namugongo, where MOGAS Uganda has installed Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cooking burners in the school's kitchen. This installation has already demonstrated significant cost benefits, with School Kitchen Limited reporting a 40% reduction in cooking costs following its transition from charcoal and briquettes to LPG.
Through the partnership, Pride Bank will provide 100% financing for LPG installations, enabling schools, hotels, hospitals, other institutions, and households to adopt modern cooking solutions without having to meet the full installation costs upfront. This financing option aims to address one of the key barriers to adopting clean cooking technologies: the initial cost of installation. By providing financing, Pride Bank is enabling more institutions and households to transition to cleaner and more efficient cooking systems while managing their cash flow.
Joseph Lwanga Mugerwa, Manager, Agribusiness and Green Financing at Pride Bank, highlighted the Bank's commitment to making clean energy solutions more accessible through affordable financing. He emphasized that the partnership addresses a significant challenge in the adoption of clean cooking technologies. Mugerwa noted that the financing option will enable institutions and households to transition to cleaner and more efficient cooking systems.
MOGAS Uganda Managing Director, Phillip Muhereza, highlighted the benefits of LPG cooking, including faster meal preparation, improved kitchen efficiency, ease of use, and reduced cooking costs. He further emphasized MOGAS Uganda's commitment to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the installed systems through a comprehensive maintenance program, established safety measures, and practical training for kitchen staff and other users.
Representing Vienna College, William Galiwango welcomed the initiative, highlighting the importance of efficient and reliable cooking solutions in supporting the school's daily operations. The experience at Vienna College demonstrates the potential for institutions with high-volume cooking requirements to achieve significant operational savings while transitioning to cleaner energy alternatives. This experience is expected to be replicated in other institutions and households across Uganda.
Beyond the financial benefits, LPG cooking offers a cleaner kitchen environment by reducing smoke and soot associated with traditional cooking fuels. It also supports faster meal preparation, easier kitchen management, and reduced reliance on charcoal and other solid fuels. The Pride Bank–MOGAS partnership seeks to extend these benefits to more institutions and households across Uganda by combining accessible financing with reliable LPG technology, installation, maintenance, and user training.
