The Nigeria Press Council's Executive Secretary, Dr. Dili Ezughah, and former Sokoto State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Akibu Dalhatu, have urged Eagle Times to prioritize objectivity and credibility in its reporting. The new media platform, founded by Sir Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, was launched in Abuja on October 2, 2026, coinciding with Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. Ezughah and Dalhatu made the call during the unveiling event, emphasizing the importance of objective journalism in Nigeria's media industry.

Dr. Ezughah challenged Eagle Times to report issues as they are, without allowing subjectivity to influence its coverage. She urged the platform to make a positive difference in the media industry by prioritizing objective journalism over sensational reportage. Meanwhile, Hon. Dalhatu emphasized the platform's responsibility to contribute to a more credible media environment, given its launch on a symbolic date.

Hon. Dalhatu used the opportunity to urge Sir Ikechukwu Chukwunyere to utilize the platform to tell legitimate stories and uphold the fundamental responsibility of journalism to society. He stressed that the platform should be used to retire all manner of vices in the media industry and in Nigeria by reporting uncomfortable truths and exercising restraint in giving prominence to comfortable lies.

In response, Sir Ikechukwu Chukwunyere stated that Eagle Times would remain committed to journalism rather than vested interests. He described the platform's philosophy as serving as "a voice for the Nigerian people and watchdog for the nation." Chukwunyere emphasized that being a voice for Nigerians means listening to their concerns, telling their stories, and drawing attention to issues affecting their daily lives.

As a watchdog for the nation, Chukwunyere said Eagle Times would question decisions, demand accountability, and scrutinize public officials regardless of their political affiliation, social status, or influence. He assured that the platform would be guided by accuracy, fairness, professionalism, credibility, and responsible journalism.

Chukwunyere further pledged that Eagle Times would verify and investigate stories before publication, seek the other side of a story, and correct mistakes when made. He also promised to give individuals and organizations the opportunity to respond whenever allegations were made against them.

The launch of Eagle Times has been welcomed by stakeholders, who urge the publication to shun sensationalism and subjective reporting. With its commitment to objective journalism, Eagle Times aims to make a positive impact in Nigeria's media landscape.
