Postal Corporation of Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable postal solutions that bridge distances, create opportunities, and keep people connected. The corporation joined other postal administrations across the globe in marking World Post Day 2026 on Friday under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities.” This year’s theme recognises the unity of the global postal network and its limitless potential to connect people, empower businesses, and bring communities closer together.
The Postal Corporation of Kenya is in the process of modernising its services in 17 counties. The corporation has completed a site survey ahead of the installation of a local area network, which will strengthen its ICT capacity and improve service delivery. This move is expected to enhance the corporation's ability to provide efficient services to its customers.
Principal Secretary for Public Investment and Asset Management Cyrell Odede has challenged the corporation to develop new revenue streams to remain competitive in the digital age. He noted that the corporation should strategise on how to use some of the assets lying idle. Odede emphasised that the corporation should transform into a modern logistics and service platform built on the footprint it already owns.
Communication Authority of Kenya Director-General and Chief Executive Officer David Mugonyi affirmed that the post is not disappearing but evolving to a future defined by the ability to provide logistics, parcel delivery, fulfilment, addressing financial services, and digital solutions. He noted that the authority has responded by reviewing the structure of the postal and courier markets against global best practices.
The revised structure reflects the shift towards e-commerce logistics and digitally enabled fulfilment and will promote reliability, transparency, and fair competition among operators of all sizes. Mugonyi explained that in the last financial year, the authority has also strengthened monitoring of postal service quality and security by installing radio-frequency identification monitoring equipment in 10 more post offices, bringing the total to 30.
Mugonyi added that the postal network can play a similar role in Kenya, reaching communities that few other institutions can. With the right investment and partnerships, it can carry the goods of small traders to customers across the country. The post can bring public services closer to citizens and support the last mile delivery of essential products to unserved and underserved communities.
The modernisation of postal services and the development of new revenue streams are crucial for the corporation's growth and competitiveness. The corporation's efforts to enhance its services and utilise its assets efficiently will be critical in achieving its goals. The theme of World Post Day 2026 highlights the importance of the postal network in connecting people and empowering businesses.
