Police stations in El Fasher, the capital of Sudan's North Darfur State, have resumed operations after years of disruptions linked to clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The resumption of operations was marked by a ceremony attended by Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Suleiman Sandal Haqar and Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi of the parallel Government of Peace and Unity.

The ceremony was part of a visit by the Founding Government Council to El Fasher from its administrative base in the South Darfur State capital, Nyala, to assess conditions in the city. The council's meeting in El Fasher was seen as a significant step towards recovery in the city, which has experienced war and destruction. Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Suleiman Sandal Haqar described the occasion as historic for the Sudanese people and the Founding Government.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi conveyed three messages from the Founding Government to Federal Police personnel. He emphasized that the police constituted a fundamental pillar of the government's founding project, which seeks to build a new Sudan that respects and safeguards the dignity of its citizens. The government's focus on the police stems from the connection between the Federal Police project and the protection of civilians.

Al-Taishi also highlighted the importance of properly equipping and training the police and ensuring they receive their salaries on time. He identified restoring normal life in El Fasher as a priority for the Founding Government and its Council of Ministers, through the provision of essential services, rehabilitation of public institutions, and restoration of security.

Resident Mustafa Al-Tounsi confirmed that Federal Police units had resumed their duties across El Fasher. Various police departments, including the traffic police and the Abu Shouk police station, as well as the police headquarters, are now operational. The police are receiving complaints from residents and conducting investigations after obtaining authorization from the public prosecution to open cases.

A court complex had reopened in the city the previous week, providing access to justice for citizens who have suffered harm or believe they have been wronged. Al-Tounsi noted that El Fasher is currently experiencing a significant degree of recovery, with the police stations' resumption of operations being a key aspect of this recovery.

The resumption of police operations in El Fasher marks a significant step towards stability and security in the region. The city's recovery is seen as a positive development for the Sudanese people, who have experienced years of conflict and disruption.
