The Delta State Police Command has conducted a series of operations resulting in the recovery of military uniforms, illicit drugs, and firearms. On September 18, 2026, operatives of the Command's Anti-Cult Unit intercepted a vehicle carrying suspected illicit items in Asaba. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the details of the operation in a statement.
According to Edafe, the police received information about a Sienna vehicle carrying suspected illicit drugs and military items traveling from Onitsha towards Ondo State. The operatives monitored the route and intercepted a green Toyota Sienna with registration number KP 527 AAA at about 4:50 am. The vehicle was driven by 45-year-old Isaac Urji from Abia State.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of cartons of suspected Tramadol and other illicit drugs, as well as military camouflage uniforms, boots, and hats. The driver was arrested and taken into custody. The police have started investigating the origin and destination of the items and are working to identify other individuals linked to the consignment.
In a separate operation, the police arrested two suspected cultists during an intelligence-led operation in Ika South Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Destiny Okafor and 22-year-old Sunday Bryan, were arrested on September 18 at Alisheme Community. Preliminary investigation suggests they claimed to be members of the NBM Confraternity.
Items recovered from the suspects included a locally made single-barrel gun, a battle axe, two cutlasses, mobile phones, and a laptop. The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. This operation was carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Sector III, Ubulu-Uku.
The police also conducted another operation on September 15 in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of four suspected cultists. Two locally made pistols, one pump-action gun, and six live cartridges were recovered during the operation. The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, has assured residents that the command will continue intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism, and the spread of illegal firearms.
