The Benue State Police Command and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) have launched a Safe Schools Programme in a bid to bolster security around educational institutions across the state. This initiative aims to safeguard pupils, students, teachers, and educational facilities from potential threats. The launch event took place at Government Model Secondary School, High Level, Makurdi, drawing stakeholders from various sectors including the Ministry of Education and school authorities.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, emphasized that ensuring school safety is a collective responsibility that requires active participation from security agencies, government institutions, school authorities, parents, and communities. He commended the PCRC for spearheading the programme and acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu. Nwadiogbu assured stakeholders of the police command's continued support for the initiative.

During the launch, Nwadiogbu urged pupils, students, and school personnel to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or security concerns to the police or relevant authorities promptly. He stressed the need for closer cooperation between the police, schools, and communities to enhance security awareness and prevent threats within and around educational institutions.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Helen Nabativ, expressed the ministry's commitment to supporting initiatives that provide safe and conducive learning environments for children across the state. She represented the Commissioner for Education at the event. The ministry's support underscores the importance of collaboration between different stakeholders in achieving the programme's objectives.

Additionally, the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Bibian Tyoishi, pledged to support efforts aimed at improving security in and around schools. Her commitment, on behalf of the board's commissioner, highlights the collaborative approach necessary for the success of the Safe Schools Programme.
