Police Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang has been charged with the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a medic who was shot dead in Nairobi. Sang appeared before the Milimani High Court, where he was arraigned before Justice Alexander Muteti and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. According to the particulars of the charge, Dr Mutiso was shot dead at approximately 9:30am along Mawensi Road in Kilimani, Nairobi. The prosecution alleges that Sang, jointly with other individuals who are yet to be arraigned, unlawfully caused her death.

The prosecution team, led by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Victor Owiti, informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would oppose the inspector’s release on bail. The prosecution said it would file an affidavit outlining the grounds for opposing his release. Sang was subsequently remanded at Industrial Area Remand Prison pending further directions on his bail application. The case will be mentioned on November 30, 2026.

Sang was arrested in Eldoret and becomes the latest suspect to be charged in connection with Dr Mutiso’s murder. Other individuals charged in the case include Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her two children, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, as well as Police Constables Julius Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Kennedy Kipkemoi Borboroi. The DPP’s latest action marks a further development in the prosecution of suspects linked to the killing.

The court proceedings are ongoing, with the prosecution presenting its case against Sang. The inspector’s plea of not guilty suggests that he will contest the charges against him. The prosecution will need to provide evidence to support its allegations that Sang was involved in Dr Mutiso’s murder.

Dr Mutiso’s murder has raised concerns about the safety of medical professionals in Kenya. The case has also highlighted the need for thorough investigations and swift action against those suspected of committing crimes. The DPP’s office has stated that it will continue to pursue justice in this case.

The next step in the case is the hearing of Sang’s bail application. The prosecution’s opposition to bail suggests that it may have concerns about Sang’s potential to interfere with the investigation or flee the country. The court will consider these factors when making a decision on bail.

The case against Sang and other suspects is ongoing, with the court expected to give further directions on the bail application during subsequent proceedings. The DPP’s office has reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice in this case, and the court is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that justice is served.
