The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal network allegedly specialising in targeting bank customers and stealing large sums of money in Kumasi and neighbouring communities. The suspects have been identified as Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, popularly known as KC, 35. Their arrests followed separate intelligence-led operations conducted by a specialised police team investigating a series of robberies involving customers of financial institutions across the Ashanti Region.

According to a police statement released on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the operation was undertaken on October 31 by an Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Team comprising officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. The first two suspects were apprehended at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where officers subsequently conducted searches of their rooms and recovered GH¢1,600 in cash, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unlawful entry into vehicles belonging to unsuspecting bank customers.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the alleged criminal network operated by monitoring banking facilities, identifying individuals who withdrew substantial amounts of money and secretly following them before launching robbery attacks. Investigators further suspect that members of the group employed specialised master keys to gain access to vehicles left unattended by bank customers, enabling them to remove cash and other valuables stored inside.

During interrogation, the two initially arrested suspects reportedly identified two alleged accomplices as Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC. Acting on information provided by the suspects, the police team proceeded to another hotel at Dichemso, where Kingsley was subsequently arrested. However, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large, prompting the police to appeal to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist investigators in locating and apprehending him.

The police statement further disclosed that the three arrested individuals allegedly admitted to participating in a robbery on October 27, 2026, at Asokore Mampong, where a victim reportedly lost GH¢15,000 after withdrawing the money from Kwamang Rural Bank. Investigators are also examining their suspected involvement in other similar incidents reported at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and several other locations across Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

The three suspects have since been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where they are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the alleged criminal activities. Meanwhile, the police have urged customers of banks and other financial institutions to exercise heightened caution, particularly when withdrawing or transporting substantial amounts of cash.

The public has also been advised to remain alert to individuals exhibiting suspicious behaviour around banking facilities and to avoid leaving money, electronic devices and other valuable possessions inside unattended vehicles. The investigation remains ongoing as the police intensify efforts to apprehend the outstanding suspect and establish the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities across the Ashanti Region.
