The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, for allegedly kidnapping a 16-year-old boy, Usman Dauda, in Zigau Village, Shira Local Government Area of the state. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the victim was rescued unhurt during the operation. The incident occurred on September 28, 2026, when the Yana Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report from the victim's father.
The victim's father reported that his son had been abducted from Misau town to Bangala Village by Abubakar, who allegedly intended to take the teenager to Kano for yet-to-be-ascertained reasons. Upon receipt of the report, detectives swiftly mobilized to the scene, successfully rescued the victim unhurt, and arrested the suspect. The victim was then taken to General Hospital Yana for medical examination.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to unlawfully confining the victim in his room for a day without proper feeding. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The incident highlights the growing concern of kidnapping in the region.
In a separate operation, operatives attached to the ‘A’ Division arrested five suspects at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, for alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, housebreaking, mischief, and theft. The suspects had invaded an incomplete building at Doya Quarters and allegedly carted away windows and glass before the arrival of the owner.
The five suspects were apprehended after operatives, acting on credible intelligence, promptly swooped on the area and recovered the stolen items as exhibits. The suspects were arrested at about 4:30 pm on the same day as the kidnapping incident. This incident showcases the police's efforts to combat various crimes in the region.
Furthermore, at about 5:30 am, information was received at the ‘A’ Division that some hoodlums had been sighted with suspected stolen items concealed in a black bag. Operatives promptly mobilized and arrested the suspects, adding that preliminary investigation confirmed the items to be stolen.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that all the cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution. The Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police.
