Plan International Burkina Faso officially launched four projects on October 27, 2026, in Ouagadougou, aiming to improve the lives of women, youth, and children. The projects, valued at over 3.4 billion FCFA, focus on economic empowerment, food security, and social services. The launch ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the Liptako region, Abdoul Karim Zongo, representing the Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment.
The four projects are designed to address various challenges faced by communities in Burkina Faso. They align with Plan International's 2025-2027 country strategy and national policies. The initiatives cover essential areas, including early childhood development, education, and economic empowerment. The projects aim to promote green jobs, protect girls' rights, and improve access to water, hygiene, and sanitation.
One of the projects, "Résilience économique par le vert et l'entrepreneuriat" (REVE), has a budget of 531,325,170 FCFA and will run from July 2026 to June 2029. REVE targets young people aged 18-35, particularly women, internally displaced persons, and returnees. The project aims to reduce their economic vulnerability by enhancing their skills, employability, and access to production means.
The REVE project will be implemented in six communes across three regions. It plans to train 190 young people in entrepreneurship and 120 others in digital marketing and e-commerce. Additionally, 180 community leaders and 400 cooperative members will receive training in sustainable agricultural practices. The project also involves creating two market gardens, developing six hectares of rice-growing lowlands, and establishing two school gardens.
Another project, "Renforcement et d'amélioration de la sécurité alimentaire et nutritionnelle" (BV-2N), focuses on preventing malnutrition in early childhood. With a budget of 187,960,236 FCFA, BV-2N will be deployed in four regions from July 2026 to June 2027. The project targets young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and community health workers.
BV-2N aims to contribute to reducing acute malnutrition among children under five. The project involves animating 1,045 learning groups and monitoring infant and young child feeding practices. It also includes training 341 community health workers and acquiring 3,000 brachial perimeter measurement bracelets.
The two other projects, "Projet intégré de développement communautaire et de résilience" (PIDCR-PBFA) and "Projet de renforcement de l'accélération de l'abandon des mutilations génitales féminines et de promotion de la santé maternelle et infantile" (MGF/E Nakambé), also aim to promote community development and resilience.
