Patrick Anamoo Akuntubgo has been retained as Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region. This decision follows the party's constituency executive elections. Akuntubgo has been serving in this role since 2022 and is expected to continue supporting the party's communication activities, grassroots mobilisation, and efforts to strengthen unity among members.
Akuntubgo's involvement in NDC politics dates back to 2004 when he began serving as a party agent during elections. He has since held various positions, including Branch Secretary from 2005 to 2015, where he coordinated party activities, maintained records, and facilitated communication between branch executives and members. His experience in political communication also includes serving as Communications Director of the John Mahama Fun Club between 2017 and 2021.
In addition to his role as Deputy Communications Officer, Akuntubgo has been a member of the NDC's Bongo Constituency Campaign Team since 2004, contributing to electoral campaigns, voter mobilisation, and other party activities. He has also served as a party agent at the Electoral Commission's Strong Room since 2008, undertaking information technology-related responsibilities during electoral processes.
Akuntubgo previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). With his retention, he intends to build on his experience to strengthen communication among party executives, branch officers, and grassroots supporters in the constituency.
Akuntubgo believes effective political communication should extend beyond election periods and must remain factual, respectful, and responsive to the concerns of party members. He also advocates for greater collaboration among party communicators, improved information sharing, and regular engagement with grassroots members.
According to Akuntubgo, listening to members, accommodating differing opinions, and promoting unity are essential to strengthening the NDC's structures in Bongo. His retention marks the continuation of a political career spanning more than two decades, during which he has served in various capacities at the branch and constituency levels.
The news of Akuntubgo's retention was reported by A1 Radio, 101.1 MHz, and confirmed by Moses Anaba Azubire from Bongo. This development is significant for the NDC in the Bongo Constituency as they continue to organise and prepare for future elections.
