The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians, especially judges and lawyers, to make Jesus Christ their senior advocate and counsellor. He made this call at the church's monthly thanksgiving service in Lagos, themed "Wonderful Counsellor." The service included special prayers for members of the Bench and Bar across all levels and sectors, as well as their families.
According to Pastor Adeboye, while members of the legal profession are trained to provide counsel and represent people in difficult situations, no counsellor or advocate compares to Jesus Christ. He described Jesus as the embodiment of divine wisdom and power. Adeboye emphasized that Jesus can break all protocols, citing examples from the Bible, and is standing for believers before God the Father.
Pastor Adeboye highlighted various names of Jesus, including Son of God, Son of Man, Lamb of God, The Resurrection and the Life, The Way, the Truth and the Life, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. He noted that the descriptions of Jesus as "an advocate" and "counsellor" are particularly relevant, demonstrating His uniqueness.
Dele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration and Pastor in charge of Region 1, echoed Adeboye's sentiments. He emphasized that lawyers and judges need God's wisdom and courage to discharge their duties effectively. Balogun urged young lawyers to remain dedicated to their profession, advising them not to prioritize making money.
The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, attended the service and shared her thoughts on the role of female judges. She noted that the era when women played second fiddle had passed, with female judges now occupying prominent positions in several states. Dipeolu urged female judges to remain conscious of God's grace in their positions and seek divine wisdom and guidance.
Justice Dipeolu advised her colleagues to pray for more wisdom and God's guidance, especially with next year's election approaching. She acknowledged that her position was by the grace of God, not solely due to her brilliance. Dipeolu's remarks emphasized the importance of seeking divine guidance in their roles.
