A partial traffic diversion has been implemented at the southern entrance of Tunis, specifically on Regional Road 22, until Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This diversion is necessary to complete the demolition work on the Lacania Bridge, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Equipment and Housing. The ministry reported that as of Sunday, November 1, the demolition of the old bridge had reached 100% completion in the direction of Hammamet and approximately 75% in the direction of Tunis.
The Ministry of Equipment and Housing has outlined alternative routes for drivers traveling from the city center towards the southern suburbs and Hammamet. Motorists can take the San Gobain road towards Mokrine, then cross the Mokrine-Ryadh bridge, followed by National Road 1 towards Ben Arous, and finally arrive at the Bir El Kassia interchange. For those heading towards the city center, the recommended route involves taking the Bir El Kassia interchange and National Road 1, then crossing the Mokrine-Ryadh bridge and San Gobain road towards Tunis.
Additional alternative routes have been suggested by the ministry. Drivers can enter from the turnoff leading to Radès Stadium, then proceed to the New City intersection and Chousha Radès intersection, heading towards the Radès-Halq El Wad bridge, and from there to the city center or northern suburbs. Another option is to take National Road 1, using the turnoff adjacent to the Housing Bank towards the Chousha Radès bridge.
The ministry has also proposed an alternative route that involves passing through the Lacania Bridge and intersections of Al-Wardiya 1 and Al-Wardiya 2 towards Bab Alioua square, then the Revolon Bridge and Rue Minust Bay, and finally arriving at Rue Al-Maghreb Al-Arabi (Z4 road). This route provides another option for motorists to navigate through the area.
The Ministry of Equipment and Housing has urged road users to adhere to traffic and directional signs, exercise caution, and reduce speed when approaching work zones to ensure their safety and smooth traffic flow. The partial traffic diversion is a necessary measure to complete the demolition of the Lacania Bridge, which is expected to be finished by November 3.
The demolition work on the Lacania Bridge is nearing completion, with 100% of the bridge demolished in the direction of Hammamet and 75% in the direction of Tunis. The completion of this project is expected to improve traffic flow and infrastructure in the region.
The Ministry of Equipment and Housing has taken measures to minimize disruptions and ensure that road users have access to alternative routes. By providing clear instructions and signage, the ministry aims to reduce congestion and ensure a safe and efficient traffic flow during the demolition process.
