The family of a teenager, Imole Ilesanmi, has raised the alarm over her whereabouts after she reportedly went missing in the Agbado area of Ogun State. Imole was said to have gone missing around 3pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026, after she left her family home. Her father said she was at home when he asked her to prepare food for him, and later planned to visit a cleric in the Popóshóla area.
Imole's father said the family later learnt that she planned to visit the cleric after cooking. He said they have been calling her line, but it was ringing from Sunday until Monday morning, with nobody answering. Her friends and some people they asked also said she mentioned that she was going towards the Popóshóla area. The family reported the matter at the Agbado Police Station, and the cleric was initially arrested but later released.
The cleric, identified simply as Alfa, denied knowing Imole's whereabouts, saying she did not visit his residence on the day she disappeared. He said Imole had told people that she was going to Popóshóla, rather than his house. Alfa said he was detained for a day before being released, adding that a police officer stayed with him at his residence throughout Sunday.
Imole's sister, Ayomide Ilesanmi, said the family had been unable to establish what happened after she was last seen. She said a neighbour reported seeing Imole walking up and down, restless, and then disappearing. The family had visited churches and a mosque to pray for Imole's safe return and received several rumours since circulating her photographs and information online.
Ayomide said the family had received different information, some of which were fake, and it had been difficult for them to determine what to believe. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, had yet to respond to an enquiry about the incident when contacted. A senior police officer privy to the incident confirmed the case but declined to provide further details.
Several people directed the family to the area where the cleric lived, while some residents also claimed to have seen Imole around the neighbourhood. However, Alfa maintained that he did not see Imole on that Sunday or Monday. He said he was ready to provide the contact details of the police officer who was with him throughout that day.
The family is still searching for Imole and praying for her safe return. The case remains under investigation, and the police have yet to make any official statement. The family is urging anyone with information about Imole's whereabouts to come forward and assist in the search efforts.
