Students from Oyo State, under the Federation of Oyo State Students' Unions (FOSSU), have expressed their support for Governor Seyi Makinde's presidential ambition in the 2027 general election. They describe his leadership as a model that deserves national adoption. This endorsement was made by the National President of FOSSU, Aare Ahmed Mufutau, during a press briefing at the Conference Centre, Ministry of Education, Oyo State Secretariat, in Ibadan.

The students also commended the Oyo State government for the timely disbursement of bursary awards to final-year students, calling it a critical investment in the state's human capital. Mufutau highlighted that education is a major driver of national development and emphasized that student welfare must remain central to government priorities. The bursary scheme, now open to final-year students in public higher institutions across Nigeria, has been expanded to include students in Colleges of Education.

Under the scheme, final-year students in various categories will receive different amounts: ₦500,000 for Clinical, Aeronautics, and Aviation students; ₦200,000 for university undergraduates; ₦150,000 for Higher National Diploma (HND) students; and ₦100,000 for final-year NCE students. Mufutau disclosed that about 5,000 final-year students are expected to benefit from this year's intervention, up from 2,600 beneficiaries recorded last year.

Mufutau expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for approving the expansion of the bursary scheme and commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Hon. Victor Olojede, for his sustained engagement with students. He urged eligible students to prepare their documents and register promptly when the portal opens on Monday, October 12, 2026, and warned against patronizing unofficial registration links.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Victor Olojede, corroborated FOSSU's support for Governor Makinde's presidential ambition, stating that Makinde's governance model in Oyo State would reset Nigeria if replicated at the national level. Olojede listed key achievements of the administration in the education sector, including the abolition of the ₦3,000 public secondary school fee and the massive recruitment of teachers.

Olojede also mentioned the distribution of learning materials and the return of out-of-school children to classrooms as notable achievements. He assured students that their support for Governor Makinde would not be overlooked, emphasizing the government's love for Nigerian students at all levels.

The endorsement of Governor Makinde's presidential ambition by Oyo State students is a significant show of support, with FOSSU vowing to mobilize support for Makinde and work towards his success in the 2027 election. This move demonstrates the students' confidence in Makinde's leadership abilities and his potential to drive positive change at the national level.
