The rehabilitation and modernization works on Kabambare Avenue in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, have reached 91.8% completion. The project, which aims to reconstruct the road, build parking lots, canals, and stormwater drains, and install streetlights, has seen 2940m of the 3200m road constructed. The works were inspected by the Congolese press agency, ACP, on Monday. The project is being executed by Safrimex Sarl, with Théophile Mabiala as the supervising engineer.
According to Mabiala, the remaining 240m of the road to be constructed is between the Kabambare roundpoint and the Oasis de vie clinic in the Bon-marché neighborhood. The road is currently open to vehicles from the Kabambare-Kabasele intersection to the Avenue des Huileries. However, motorized vehicles are not yet allowed to cross the Kabambare-Huileries intersection due to the presence of Société nationale d'électricité (Snel) cables on the road.
The project also includes the construction of seven parking lots, six of which have been completed. Four of the parking lots are in the Kinshasa commune, while three are in the Barumbu commune. The parking lots aim to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. Mabiala noted that the construction of the parking lots has been completed, with the seventh one nearing completion at 80%.
The construction of canals along Kabambare Avenue has been completed at 100%, while the construction of stormwater drains, which are part of the sanitation component, has reached 70%. Three stormwater drains have been built on the Du Marché, Bakongo, and Saio streets. Mabiala mentioned that some finishing works remain, including the dismantling of old streetlights and the installation of new ones.
Mabiala acknowledged that the project experienced some delays, mainly due to the presence of existing infrastructure such as water and electricity lines. However, he noted that the population and authorities of the two communes have been supportive throughout the project execution. Their input has been valuable in improving the quality of the works.
The project aims to improve the overall infrastructure and living conditions in the area. The construction of the road, parking lots, and stormwater drains will help reduce traffic congestion and improve sanitation. The installation of streetlights will also enhance public safety. The project has been executed in collaboration with local stakeholders, including the population and authorities.
The rehabilitation and modernization of Kabambare Avenue are part of a larger effort to improve the infrastructure in Kinshasa. The project is expected to be completed soon, with the remaining works to be finished shortly. Once completed, the project will have a significant impact on the daily lives of residents and commuters in the area.
