Recently, over 400 students from high schools and colleges in Douala, Cameroon, participated in a workshop focused on welding and assembly trades. The event, organized by the Centre de formation et d’orientation professionnelle (CIOP) de Douala, in partnership with the club 237 Welders and the delegation régionale de l’Emploi et de la formation professionnelle (MINEFOP) for the Littoral region, aimed to introduce students to these important skills for Cameroon’s industrialization.

The workshop, called "zoom-métiers," sought to destigmatize manual industrial trades and create a connection between young learners, accredited training institutions, and industry professionals. By doing so, the event aimed to inspire vocations, enhance the capacities of future professionals, and promote the adoption of technologies that will shape the future of these trades. This initiative is part of CIOP’s efforts to contribute to the promotion of certified skills.

The Centre de formation et d’orientation professionnelle (CIOP) de Douala hopes to strengthen the employability of young people and help emerge a sufficient and high-quality workforce capable of transforming the sector into a key driver of industrialization and sovereignty. To achieve this, the center works with industry stakeholders to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the welding and assembly trades.

During the workshop, students had the opportunity to learn about the welding and assembly trades, interact with professionals, and explore specialized institutes. By making these trades more accessible and attractive, the organizers hope to encourage more young people to pursue careers in these fields. This, in turn, will help address the demand for skilled workers in Cameroon’s industrial sector.

The event was organized in response to the growing need for skilled workers in Cameroon’s industrial sector. With the country’s economy diversifying, there is an increasing demand for professionals with expertise in welding and assembly. By introducing students to these trades, the workshop aimed to bridge the gap between education and employment.

The collaboration between CIOP, club 237 Welders, and MINEFOP demonstrates the importance of partnerships in promoting vocational training and addressing the needs of the labor market. By working together, these organizations can help create a more skilled and competitive workforce, ultimately contributing to Cameroon’s economic growth and development.

The success of this workshop highlights the need for more initiatives that promote vocational training and introduce young people to various career paths. As Cameroon continues to invest in its industrial sector, it is essential to develop the skills and competencies of its workforce. By doing so, the country can unlock its full potential and achieve sustainable economic growth.
