Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has officially launched his re-election campaign, vowing to deepen ongoing reforms and build on his administration's achievements. The campaign flag-off, which took place at the Umuahia Township Stadium, drew thousands of Labour Party supporters from across the state's 17 Local Government Areas. Governor Otti emphasized that Abia will not revert to its previous era of poor leadership and political intimidation.
Governor Otti highlighted his administration's significant progress since taking office in 2023, citing the completion of over 400 road projects covering more than 1,000 kilometres. Major roads reconstructed include Port Harcourt Road, Oboha Road, Ohanku Road, and Arochukwu Road, which were previously considered difficult to execute. These projects aim to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The Governor also emphasized his administration's commitment to education, revealing that over 9,000 teachers have been employed and smart schools established in several communities. Additionally, his government has invested in primary healthcare delivery and committed billions of naira to revitalizing Abia State University, Uturu, and Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba. These efforts aim to improve the state's education and healthcare systems.
Governor Otti's administration has also focused on reviving industries in Aba, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises, and boosting agricultural production to improve food security. He assured residents that no property owner would suffer demolition due to political differences under his government, demonstrating a commitment to protecting citizens' rights and promoting peaceful coexistence.
As Governor Otti seeks a second term, he has urged residents to support Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming elections. He believes that another four years will enable his government to strengthen reforms and address remaining challenges of poor governance. His proposed manifesto, titled "The New Abia: From Rescue to Consolidation," outlines his vision for the state's continued development.
In a display of political tolerance, Governor Otti wished candidates of other political parties well and directed state officials to make public facilities available for campaign activities, subject to payment of prescribed fees and compliance with relevant regulations. He also urged his supporters to conduct issue-based campaigns centred on policies and performance, warning against political violence and electoral misconduct.
Governor Otti's re-election bid is built on his administration's achievements and commitment to building a stronger Abia through institutional reforms, infrastructure development, and improved opportunities for residents. With his campaign now in full swing, residents will be watching closely to see how he plans to consolidate his gains and address the state's ongoing challenges.
