Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has inaugurated the campaign council for the re-election of Senator Lere Oyewumi, the Accord Party's candidate for Osun West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections. The inauguration was held on Thursday, with Adeleke's deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, representing him. Adeleke charged members of the council to work diligently to secure victory for Oyewumi in the January 16, 2027 election.

Adeleke described Oyewumi, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, as a responsible lawmaker whose contributions to governance and quality representation had made the state proud. He urged members of the newly inaugurated council to demonstrate total loyalty and commitment to the party's campaign. Adeleke emphasized that there is no room for 99.9% loyalty, stressing that members must be 100% committed to Oyewumi's re-election bid.

Senator Oyewumi thanked Governor Adeleke for his leadership, which he said had made campaigning easier for Accord Party candidates in the state. Oyewumi described Adeleke as a pathfinder, noting that the governor's re-election demonstrated the confidence Osun residents had in his leadership. He expressed optimism that the goodwill would translate into electoral victories for other Accord candidates.

Reflecting on his three-and-a-half years in the Senate, Oyewumi said the experience had broadened his understanding of legislative responsibilities and strengthened his resolve to serve his constituents better. He pledged to consolidate on his achievements by prioritizing infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, and rural electrification across the district.

The Director-General of the campaign council, Adesoye Oyetunde, expressed confidence in Oyewumi's performance, citing his record of interventions and commitment to constituency development. Oyetunde noted that Oyewumi had either completed or initiated road projects across all 10 local government areas in the senatorial district and had also supported interventions in healthcare, agriculture, and other sectors.

Oyetunde highlighted Oyewumi's achievements, including the construction of classrooms in every local government area in Osun West and his support for healthcare and agricultural initiatives. He expressed optimism that Oyewumi would build on his achievements if returned to the Senate in 2027.

Senator Oyewumi recalled that he contested the 2023 election without having money to distribute to voters, yet secured overwhelming support from the electorate. He pledged to continue prioritizing the needs of his constituents, including students, artisans, market women, farmers, and the elderly.
