Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has dismissed claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo was holding President William Ruto's Sh1.5 trillion when he died. Sudi termed the allegations as absurd and politically motivated. He questioned the logic behind Gachagua's claims, asking what kind of world would see a person ferrying such a colossal sum by plane or laundering Sh1.5 trillion.

Sudi, a close ally of President Ruto, turned his fire on Gachagua, accusing him of making wild allegations that made little sense. He poked fun at Gachagua with nicknames and accused him of confusing the public with words that made little sense. Sudi claimed Gachagua's thinking was "evil" round the clock. The Kapseret MP also defended the late businessman, saying Chivayo deserved applause for his hard work, whatever his shortcomings.

Gachagua made the claims last Sunday while addressing clergy in Boston, United States. He alleged that Chivayo was holding more than Sh1.5 trillion belonging to Ruto at the time of his death. Gachagua further claimed that Chivayo had been used to transport money by private plane on the president's behalf, though he presented no evidence to support the claim.

Chivayo, known for his lavish lifestyle, died alongside his wife and four others in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe. President Ruto mourned him as a dear friend. According to Gachagua, Chivayo was used to receive, move and keep money on Ruto's behalf, and that he was holding more than Sh1.5 trillion at the time of his death.

Gachagua also linked Chivayo to an alleged plan involving election technology ahead of the 2027 General Election and accused him of money laundering. However, he offered no evidence to back the claim. Sudi's reaction to Gachagua's claims has sparked a heated debate, with many questioning the motives behind Gachagua's allegations.

Sudi's defense of Chivayo comes as a surprise to many, given Chivayo's controversial reputation. However, Sudi's close relationship with President Ruto may have influenced his reaction to Gachagua's claims. The incident has raised concerns about the use of unverified claims to tarnish the reputation of individuals.

The controversy surrounding Chivayo's death and Gachagua's claims has sparked a national debate in Kenya. Key stakeholders are calling for evidence-based discussions and an end to speculative claims. The incident highlights the need for leaders to exercise caution when making public statements.
