Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), a joint task force in Nigeria's North West region, have achieved significant operational successes. On October 10, 2026, the force announced the arrest of a terrorist collaborator in Kaduna State, the destruction of three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Zamfara State, and the recovery of abandoned livestock. These operations reflect the ongoing efforts of security agencies to combat terrorism and restore safety in the region. The operations were detailed in a statement by Lt. Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for OPFY.

The arrest of Yusuf Adamu, a resident of Kuyello in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was made on October 8, 2026. According to the OPFY, Adamu was apprehended based on credible human intelligence suggesting his collaboration with terrorists. Preliminary interrogation revealed that Adamu was involved in recording a video of a female kidnap victim who was allegedly sexually assaulted by terrorists. The video was reportedly used to facilitate a ransom demand.

Further details from the interrogation indicated that the kidnap victim was killed after the ransom was paid, and Adamu received ₦50,000 for his role. The OPFY stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the alleged principal suspect, Yusuf Iliya Sani, and other collaborators. The arrest underscores the efforts of security agencies to dismantle terrorist support networks and bring perpetrators to justice.

In a related operation, troops of Sector 2, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, conducted a joint operation along the Magami–Dansadau road in Zamfara State. The operation resulted in the successful location and destruction of three IEDs planted by terrorists. This clearance operation has improved safety and freedom of movement along the route, eliciting positive reactions from residents and road users.

On the same day, troops of Sector 2 received intelligence about the movement of terrorists with rustled livestock between Kombo and Gurusu villages. The troops swiftly deployed to the area, engaged the terrorists, and forced them to flee, abandoning the livestock. The recovered animals comprised 14 camels, 19 cows, and 40 sheep. The livestock was subsequently moved to a secure location for further action.

These operational successes demonstrate the commitment of OPFY troops and other security agencies to protecting lives and property. The efforts aim to dismantle terrorist support networks, neutralize explosive threats, and restore safety in the region. The public has been encouraged to provide credible and timely information on suspicious persons, movements, and objects to support ongoing operations.

The recent operations by OPFY troops reflect a sustained effort to combat terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria's North West region. The force has urged the public to continue providing information that could lead to the apprehension of terrorists and their collaborators. Key to these efforts is the collaboration between security agencies and the local community in reporting suspicious activities.
