Scammers Target Young Central Africans
Behind the screens of online job offers and scholarships to prestigious universities, scammers are luring young people from the Central African Republic into fake educational programs.
- Soulemane's friend asked him to join a program in Chad, claiming it was an opportunity for him to further his studies.
- The victim sent documents and paid 650,000 CFA francs (over $1,200 USD), only to discover the 'school' was a scam.
Soulemane's friend disappeared after he arrived in Ndjamena, leaving him stranded with no support. He lost his documents and time, and eventually sought help from a local acquaintance.
'Be very cautious of online opportunities for education abroad,' Soulemane warns young people. 'Parents should also verify the credibility of universities or institutions before allowing their children to leave.'
