The Mauritian government has announced that online applications for the State Age Pension (SAP) will be available starting Wednesday, October 7, 2026. This was revealed by Minister of Social Security, Ashok Subron, during a press conference on Tuesday. The new pension scheme will come into effect on January 1, 2027, and will replace the Basic Retirement Pension (BRP).

The online platform, mosap.govmu.org, will allow future beneficiaries to submit their applications from the age of 60 without having to physically visit one of the 38 Social Security offices across the island. According to Minister Subron, this reform is a significant development in the history of social security in Mauritius. He encouraged younger individuals to assist elderly people with their online applications.

The online application process is designed for new beneficiaries of the State Age Pension who do not currently receive any pension and wish to start receiving the SAP from 2027. Approximately 260,000 individuals who already receive the BRP are not required to make a new application. Junior Minister for Social Security, Kugan Parapen, stated that those who have already made an application and will turn 61 in September, October, November, or December 2026 will receive their BRP before December 31 and will automatically transition to the SAP.

To be eligible, applications must be submitted three months prior to the desired start date of the pension. For instance, individuals turning 60 in October 2026 and wishing to receive their early SAP in January 2027 can submit their application from October 7. However, those who want to start receiving their pension in June 2027 will have to wait until March 2027 to apply.

When applying, individuals will need to provide certain documents and personal information, including their identity card, passport number, and bank details. The complete list of required documents will be provided during the online application process. Additionally, applications for the National Pension Fund (NPF) can also be made through the same platform. Upon completion, applicants will receive an SMS with a reference number.

The authorities expect to receive around 18,000 applications and have warned that technical issues may arise during the launch. They have assured the public that any necessary adjustments will be communicated. Kugan Parapen described the transition from BRP to SAP as a historic milestone, while Ashok Subron referred to it as a major evolution, urging Mauritians to make this transition together.

According to the latest figures provided by Minister Subron, the SAP estimation application has recorded 492,597 accesses. The government has encouraged the public to use the online platform, while also providing support for those who may need assistance with their applications.
