A political pressure group in Ogoniland, Rivers State, the Legbo Coalition, has started mobilising support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Dr Gabriel Pidomson, ahead of the 2027 general election. The group has inaugurated its ward and unit executives across the four local government areas in Ogoniland to establish a grassroots political structure. This move aims to strengthen the coalition's presence across Ogoniland.
During the inauguration of the executives, the chairman of the coalition, Comrade Felix Kpaedee, emphasised that the event marked the beginning of a coordinated grassroots campaign. He tasked the executives with taking the coalition's message to households, compounds, and communities through door-to-door campaigns, one-on-one engagements, and voter sensitisation. Kpaedee stated that the coalition's objectives include uniting its members, supporting Pidomson's candidacy, and positioning Legbo to play a more active role in the political process.
Kpaedee urged members to remain united and focus on grassroots engagement rather than political rhetoric. He noted that 2027 is not far away and that if they don't choose who speaks for them, others will choose for them. The chairman's comments reflect the coalition's determination to take an active role in the 2027 election. The Legbo Coalition's efforts aim to ensure that Ogoniland has a strong voice in the election.
The founder of the Legbo Coalition, Chief Anthony Waadah, also addressed the members during the inauguration. As the Gbenemene of Legbo Kingdom and President of the Ogoni Business Owners Association in America, Waadah charged members to make justice, equity, and competence the foundation of their political activities. He believes that Pidomson's candidacy represents these principles and urged members to focus on the candidate's qualities and development agenda.
Waadah stressed that the coalition should not present Pidomson's project as an exclusively Ogoni political agenda. Instead, he argued that the governorship of Rivers State concerns all communities and ethnic groups in the state. Waadah emphasised that Rivers State belongs to all of its people and that they want a leader who will govern the state fairly, without ethnic sentiment.
According to Waadah, Pidomson's development blueprint should be subjected to public discussion and taken to communities so that voters can assess the candidate's plans for the state. He believes that the coalition's responsibility is not simply to support a candidate but to take a message to the people. The coalition will engage with communities to explain Pidomson's vision for Rivers State.
The Legbo Coalition's efforts to mobilise support for Pidomson's candidacy reflect the ongoing preparations for the 2027 general election in Rivers State. The coalition aims to ensure that Ogoniland has a strong voice in the election and that its people are actively engaged in the political process. The inauguration of the ward and unit executives marks a significant step in this process.
