The 2026 edition of the MTN Suncity Fest concluded with an inter-community football gala held at the Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School Park in Sunyani. The Odumase community football team emerged victorious, winning the match 2-0 against the Baakoniaba community football team. As a result, Odumase took home GHC30,000 cash. The event saw participation from 11 communities in the Sunyani municipality.

The MTN Suncity Fest, instituted a decade ago by MTN Ghana with the support of the Sunyani-based Suncity Group of Companies, aims to deepen the bond of peace and social cohesion among communities. The festival has been celebrated annually, and this year's edition was marked by high-level performance from the players. Spectators and local event organisers described the gala as the best performance of the players so far.

In the semi-final encounters, Sunyani Area Two drew a goalless draw with Baakoniba, while Odumase beat Penkwase 1-0. Each of the four community teams received MTN souvenirs and other packages. The Baakoniaba team, despite losing the finals, received GHS20,000 cash and souvenirs from MTN Ghana organisers.

Mr Ransford Antwi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Suncity Group of Companies, commended MTN Ghana for the festival and the football gala. He noted that the gala had helped unearth and build football talents, with some football clubs, including foreign clubs, signing up players from the festival. Two players from the 2026 gala were also picked for further opportunities.

Mr Antwi lauded the level of comportment and discipline of the players and expressed hope that the festival would continue to build more football talents in the municipality for job creation. The event has not only promoted peace and social cohesion but also provided a platform for young players to showcase their skills.

Mr Kofi Owusu, the Bono Regional Manager of MTN Ghana, highlighted the potential of sports and football in creating employment opportunities. He emphasized that MTN Ghana remained dedicated to sustaining the festival, not only to reward loyal customers but also to strengthen the company's relationship with them for mutual benefit.

The MTN Suncity Fest has become an annual event that brings communities together through sports. With the support of local organisers and sponsors, the festival is expected to continue promoting peace, social cohesion, and football talent development in the Sunyani municipality. MTN Ghana will continue to innovate and serve customers with excellent telecommunication and mobile money services.
