The Obidient Movement has announced the appointment of Moses Paul as its new national coordinator. This was made known in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by Onyeka Dike of the movement's media and communications directorate. According to the statement, Mr. Paul's appointment follows the reassignment of Yunusa Tanko to a new role. Mr. Tanko had served as national coordinator for three years. The movement expressed appreciation for his contributions during his tenure.
During his three-year tenure, Mr. Tanko focused on strengthening the movement's organisational structure and institutional framework. He established a National Advisory Council to deepen strategic engagement and transition from election-cycle activism to a lasting institution. The council was set up to ensure the movement's sustainability beyond election cycles. Additionally, Mr. Tanko oversaw the establishment of offices across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Under Mr. Tanko's leadership, the Obidient Movement expanded its presence nationwide. The movement established offices in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside five regional coordinators and a regional collegiate council. Furthermore, grassroots structures were established across the 37 state coordination areas and 774 local government areas. These structures were set up to strengthen the movement's presence and mobilisation nationwide.
The Obidient Movement also developed an online mobilisation and recruitment platform, www.obidients.com. This platform was designed to facilitate membership registration and mobilisation efforts. In addition, the movement developed an election-results monitoring system linked to INEC's Results Viewing Portal. This system enabled the movement to track and monitor election results in real-time.
The movement expanded its engagement with communities, stakeholders, and support groups across the country. This was part of efforts to strengthen its organisational reach and mobilisation efforts. The movement's leaders commended Mr. Tanko for his contributions to its organisational development, coordination, and expansion during his three-year tenure. They acknowledged his efforts in building a sustainable institution.
Mr. Tanko has been reassigned as special adviser to Peter Obi on Northern Nigeria. In this new role, he will lead mobilisation and engagement efforts across the region. The Obidient Movement's leaders expressed appreciation for his contributions and wished him success in his new role. They also welcomed Mr. Paul as the new national coordinator.
Moses Paul, the new national coordinator, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to build on existing structures and solicited the prayers, support, and cooperation of members and supporters. Mr. Paul described the Obidient Movement as a citizens' movement rather than one centred on individuals. He acknowledged the challenges of taking over from Mr. Tanko and called for support to move the movement forward.
