The Obi-Kwankwaso National Women’s Support Group, backing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) platform, has begun a nationwide mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group announced the establishment of state structures to coordinate its activities across Nigeria. According to the group, its campaign officially commenced on October 1 following the inauguration of its national leadership.

The mobilisation drive will focus on women leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, young women, and community organisers as the group begins grassroots engagement across the country. The Convener and National Coordinator, Hon. Barr. Anwuli Ogbechi, stated that the organisation brought together women from different regions and backgrounds to increase women’s participation in political and community activities.

The group will use its state structures to organise town hall meetings, community forums, and other grassroots engagements as part of its campaign activities. Ogbechi mentioned that the organisation’s programme would extend beyond electoral mobilisation to include leadership mentoring and political education for young women, professional engagement with entrepreneurs and women in the diaspora, and community-based initiatives.

In addition to its campaign activities, the group listed medical and educational outreach programmes among its planned activities. It also identified inclusion programmes for persons with disabilities and other underserved communities as part of its areas of intervention. This comprehensive approach aims to engage various segments of society and promote the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

The national leadership of the group includes notable women such as Mairo Musa Abubakar as Vice Coordinator, North; Pastor Basiratu Musa Ibijoke as Deputy Coordinator, South; Lolo Victoria Mgbor Odogwu as General Secretary; Tina Ohwo as Organising Secretary; and Hajia Fadimatu Atiku Danrimi as Treasurer. Other officials include Chika Ibe, Financial Secretary; Barr. Igbinlade Oluwagboyinmi Oluwatunmise, Legal Adviser; Chinyere O. Ejike, Publicity Secretary; Blessing Okoli, Publicity Secretary; Esther Ajayi-Adetayo, Welfare Officer; and Comrade Ifeoma Uchechukwu, FCT and National Director of Interfaith and Intertribal Affairs.

The group’s next phase involves expanding its grassroots network and coordinating activities across the states as it seeks to build support for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election. With its comprehensive campaign strategy and leadership, the Obi-Kwankwaso National Women’s Support Group aims to make a significant impact in the upcoming elections.
