The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate for Agege Federal Constituency, Mudashiru Obasa, has called on residents of the constituency to mobilize support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Obasa made the call while leading an APC mega rally at Amoo Field, Orile Agege, to officially flag off the party's campaign in the constituency. The rally was attended by traditional and religious leaders, APC leaders and supporters, representatives of trade associations and artisan groups, as well as leaders of non-Yoruba communities.
Obasa urged party supporters to take the campaign to households, markets, artisan groups, places of worship, and community associations, saying the party should convert its numerical strength in Agege into increased electoral support. He emphasized the need for the party to deliver and surpass its previous votes, stating that "it is not just about victory; we must surpass our previous votes." Obasa also urged supporters to vote for President Bola Tinubu, the APC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos West, and himself as the party's House of Representatives candidate for Agege Federal Constituency.
The rally was a demonstration of the strength and cohesion of the APC in Agege, with Obasa describing the turnout, despite the midday heat, as evidence of the party's unity. He stated that "Agege is always one. And we will continue to be one. There is nothing wrong with our party in Agege." Obasa also urged party members to remain focused on their campaign and not be distracted by reports, rumors, or criticism from opponents.
Obasa charged the APC campaign structure in Agege to sustain its mobilization efforts until election day, with particular emphasis on trade associations, artisans, religious groups, traditional institutions, and community organizations. He also appealed to political actors and supporters to maintain peace throughout the campaign and election period, stating that "we must try to avoid conflict, because at the end of the day, the people will vote for their representatives – the people they truly want."
The APC chairmen of Agege and Orile-Agege, Alhaji Fatai Bisiriyu and Alaba Alashe, also urged party members to mobilize for the party's candidates, including Tinubu, Hamzat, Adebule, Obasa, Gbenga Abiola for Agege Constituency I, and Sule Sakiru for Agege Constituency II. The Chairman of Agege Local Government, AbdulGaniy Obasa, expressed confidence that the APC candidates would fulfill their campaign promises.
The Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Government, Akinola Abiodun Idowu, also said the area would mobilize support for the party's candidates in the 2027 elections. Obasa emphasized that the party has the numbers and will pour it into the APC, stating that "we have the numbers, and we will pour it into the APC." He also urged supporters to sound it loud to everybody, including trade associations, artisans, tribes, religious and traditional leaders.
Obasa concluded by stating that there will always be detractors, but the party will not listen to the din of the marketplace, emphasizing that "no matter what you do, you will never be loved by the enemy." The event was reported by Gilbert Ekugbe, a journalist at Punch Newspapers with over a decade of experience reporting on business and economic affairs.
