The number of students enrolled in educational institutions in Morocco's Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region has reached nearly 1.039 million for the 2026-2027 academic year. The "leading schools" model has been implemented in four regional directorates in the primary sector, while the coverage rate of leading preparatory schools has exceeded 51%. This brings the total number of leading institutions in the region to 907. The goal is to improve the quality of education and enhance learning conditions. The region's education system is also being bolstered by the creation of 16 new educational institutions and three boarding schools.
The total number of boarding schools in the region has risen to 166. In the preschool sector, there are 4,182 classes that accommodate around 73,000 children aged 4-6. To support this number of students, over 34,000 teachers are employed, including 1,882 new graduates from regional teacher training centers. According to Wafaa Chakir, director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, the rate of student enrollment in educational institutions across the three educational levels has reached 93% to date. The new school facilities have contributed to a reduction in overcrowded classrooms from 5% to 3%. The region is also working to address school dropout rates.
