The National Tourist Board (NTB) of Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), has launched a major compliance monitoring and revenue collection effort in the Northern Region. This initiative aims to ensure that tourism and hospitality establishments operate in accordance with established regulatory requirements. The exercise is part of the government's broader efforts to strengthen tourism regulation and improve service standards across the country.

The enforcement operation is being led by NTB Chairman Chief Tamba Allieu Kokobaye, alongside regional lead Ms. Louisa Kanu and representatives of the collaborating institutions. The joint team is inspecting hotels, nightclubs, and other tourism-related establishments to assess compliance with licensing, registration, and payment requirements. This move is expected to strengthen regulatory compliance, improve revenue collection, and promote accountability within the tourism and hospitality sector.

Operators are being encouraged to obtain the necessary licences, complete their registration, and settle all outstanding statutory payments. The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has confirmed that the team is proceeding to inspect Where Else Nightclub and Hotel as part of the enforcement operation. Further activities are expected to extend to Kabala, Port Loko, Kambia, and other areas in the Northern Region.

The National Tourist Board has reiterated the importance of compliance among tourism operators, noting that effective regulation can contribute to sustainable development, investor confidence, improved service delivery, and increased national revenue. The board is working closely with other government agencies to ensure that tourism establishments adhere to the required standards.

The compliance crackdown is part of the government's efforts to improve the tourism sector in Sierra Leone. The sector has the potential to contribute significantly to the country's economy, but it requires effective regulation to ensure that it operates in a sustainable and responsible manner. The NTB and its partners are committed to ensuring that tourism establishments operate in accordance with the law.

The enforcement operation has been welcomed by stakeholders in the tourism sector, who see it as a necessary step to ensure that the sector operates in a fair and transparent manner. The operation is also expected to help to promote investor confidence and improve service delivery in the sector.

The National Tourist Board will continue to work with other government agencies to ensure that tourism establishments comply with regulatory requirements. The board is committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices and improving the overall quality of tourism services in Sierra Leone.
