The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced a Special National Prayer for the peace, stability, and progress of Nigeria on September 30, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex. The prayer, scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., will bring together Muslim leaders and stakeholders to collectively seek Allah's guidance, protection, peace, and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens. The NSCIA, under the leadership of its President General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, will also hold its General Assembly on October 1, 2026, at the same venue, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The General Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the NSCIA and constitutes the largest gathering of the Council. It will comprise prominent Muslim personalities, including governors, legislators, ministers, and heads of government agencies.
The General Assembly will be headed by Sultan Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar and will feature the Deputy President General (North) and Shehu of Borno, HRH Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El Kanemi, CFR, and the Deputy President General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS. Other notable attendees include the Secretary General, Prof. Is haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, FNAL, and the Deputy Secretary General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.
The NSCIA General Assembly serves as a platform for consultation, reflection, and consideration of issues affecting the Council, the Muslim Ummah, and the nation. The event will also bring together representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as members of the General Purpose Committee (GPC) and Expanded General Purpose Committee (EGPC).
The Council has called on all invited members, representatives, and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate in and contribute to the success of the two-day programme. Muslims across Nigeria are urged to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance, and sustainable development in the country.
