The NSCDC has arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly molesting an 8-year-old girl in Fana village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi state. The incident was reported to the NSCDC, Kamba, by the survivor's parents. The Secretary of the Kebbi Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Mr Nasir Idris, confirmed the arrest in a statement. The suspect is currently being detained by the NSCDC Kebbi State Command.
According to Mr Idris, the Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence (TWG on GBV) received a report from Fana community concerning the alleged defilement of the minor. The survivor was subsequently taken to Mai Talle Tara SARC, Kalgo, for medical examination and documentation. A medical report was issued, and the NSCDC proceeded with the alleged perpetrator to the NSCDC Kebbi State Command for detention and further legal procedures.
The suspect reportedly complained of ill health upon arrival at the NSCDC Kebbi State Command, and the officers declined to detain him until he was medically examined. The TWG on GBV members rejected the suggestion that the survivor's parents should bear the medical expenses, as such responsibility should not be imposed on the survivor's family.
Following discussions to resolve the matter, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Nura Fingilla, took responsibility for the medical expenses. The medical examination subsequently established that there was no serious medical condition. The NSCDC officers assured the TWG on GBV that the suspect would be presented before the appropriate court for further legal proceedings.
The TWG on GBV respectfully advised the NSCDC Kebbi Command to make appropriate use of its medical unit/health facility for the preliminary examination of suspects who report minor health complaints. This advice aims to ensure that suspects receive proper medical attention while also expediting the legal process.
