The Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria (NRHJN) has recognised Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State, with the title of "Lagos Reproductive Health Champion". NRHJN is a 16-year-old media advocacy organisation with membership drawn from print, broadcast, and online media platforms across 16 states of Nigeria. The organisation has built partnerships with national and international organisations to strengthen public understanding and policy attention around reproductive health. Its advocacy covers various aspects of reproductive health, including family planning, contraception, and maternal and child health.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu brings a medical background to her public role, having spent 25 years in the Lagos State public health service. She rose to the position of Chief Medical Director/Medical Director of General Hospital, Somolu, before becoming the First Lady of Lagos State. Her academic and professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Lagos and a Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration.
With the recognition, NRHJN hopes to draw attention to the need for sustained investment and action on reproductive, maternal, and child health, particularly for women and girls who face barriers to accessing essential healthcare services. The organisation continues to campaign for stronger policies, effective implementation, and greater government investment in reproductive healthcare.
