The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National First Vice Chairman aspirant, Richard Ahiagbah, has expressed confidence in his chances of winning the upcoming national officers' elections. He dismissed a recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics that places four of his contenders ahead of him in the race. According to Ahiagbah, the poll would not determine the outcome of the party's national officers' elections, insisting that the decision ultimately rested with delegates when they cast their ballots.
The poll, conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, placed Nana Akomea, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Henry Nana Boakye, and Kodjo Fosu Boadu ahead of Ahiagbah. The elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 3, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Ahiagbah attributed the poll to the transactional nature of Global InfoAnalytics' work, adding that his attention remained on engaging delegates ahead of the election.
Ahiagbah was critical of Global InfoAnalytics Chief Executive Officer, Mussa Dankwah, who conducted the poll. He described Dankwah's work as "transactional polls" and emphasized that the real poll would be what the delegates would decide on Saturday. Ahiagbah urged delegates to consider the importance of regional balance in the party's leadership, stating that his election would support a broader strategy for the NPP as it seeks to expand its support base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The NPP National First Vice Chairman aspirant emphasized that the focus of the election should be on choosing individuals capable of leading the party and helping it achieve its electoral objectives. He maintained that the party's preoccupation was to win, not to vote for a person or against a person. Ahiagbah expressed confidence in his chances and urged delegates to consider his capabilities.
Meanwhile, aspiring NPP National Youth Organiser, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, popularly known as CID, said the Global InfoAnalytics poll had motivated him to intensify his campaign ahead of Saturday's elections. He stated that the poll had strengthened his resolve to engage delegates and work harder as he seeks to secure the National Youth Organiser position.
The NPP's national officers' elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 3, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where 7,163 delegates will vote to elect the party's new national officers. The party has set up 31 voting centres to speed up the elections. Ahiagbah and other aspirants are expected to make their final push for votes ahead of the elections.
The elections are seen as crucial for the NPP's future, with the party seeking to expand its support base ahead of the 2028 general elections. The outcome of the elections will determine the party's leadership and potentially shape its strategy for the next general elections. Key issues, such as regional balance and leadership capabilities, are expected to influence the delegates' decisions.
