Newly appointed National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abanga Fusani Yakubu, has admitted that the party failed to take security issues seriously ahead of the 2024 general election. In an interview on Joy News' PM Express, Abanga Fusani identified this lapse as one of the mistakes that led to the party's defeat. He made these remarks as he sought delegates' support for the youth organiser position. Abanga Fusani's comments come after his victory in the NPP's National Youth Organiser election.

Abanga Fusani's decision to contest again was informed by lessons from his 2022 attempt and his experience as the NPP's parliamentary candidate for Aowin in the 2024 election. He lost the parliamentary bid by 103 votes, despite the NPP and NDC having a difference of almost 6,000 votes in the constituency. Abanga Fusani said he returned to the grassroots after the 2024 election to engage party members and present his vision, policies, and programmes. This move ultimately led to his decisive victory in the latest contest for National Youth Organiser.

Abanga Fusani's political journey within the NPP dates back to his days at the University of Ghana, where he served as a TESCON organiser. He later joined the party headquarters after NPP National Chairman John Boadu asked him to work with him. Abanga Fusani served at the party headquarters from 2015 to 2022. His political career also includes an unsuccessful parliamentary primary contest in Aowin in 2019, which he lost by six votes.

In 2022, Abanga Fusani contested the NPP National Youth Organiser election but finished second. However, he said the defeat did not discourage him. Abanga Fusani subsequently returned to Aowin, contested the parliamentary primary again, and won by nearly 70% of the vote. He believes that persistence and consistency are key to success in politics. Abanga Fusani credits these qualities for his victory in the NPP's National Youth Organiser election.

Abanga Fusani believes that hard work, consistency, and sacrifice are essential for success in politics. He said that party members believe in these values and that they ultimately helped him secure a decisive victory. Abanga Fusani also highlighted the importance of social media in modern politics, vowing to use it to counter NDC messaging ahead of the 2028 elections.

As the newly appointed NPP National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fusani has set ambitious targets for the party. He aims to secure 70 'orphan' parliamentary seats for the NPP and target 4 million youth votes for the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 election. Abanga Fusani's vision and plans have garnered support from party members, who believe he is the right person for the job.

Abanga Fusani's victory in the NPP's National Youth Organiser election has been welcomed by party members. He faces the challenge of revitalising the party's youth wing and helping the NPP regain power in future elections. With his experience and determination, Abanga Fusani is poised to make a significant impact in Ghanaian politics.
