The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana has introduced a "Declaration of Interest or Intent" process for prospective parliamentary aspirants as part of its internal selection mechanism reform ahead of the 2028 general elections. This move aims to build a united and victorious front following lessons learned from the 2024 elections. NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced the new guidelines at the party's national headquarters.

According to Kodua Frimpong, the party is adopting innovative approaches to ensure a successful, peaceful, and united election in 2028. He emphasized that the party has learned from the 2024 elections and needs to think outside the box to achieve victory. The new process includes the introduction of a portal for prospective aspirants to express their interest.

The portal, ppc.nppghana.org, will be open from November 1st to November 10th, during which interested persons must register. The declaration of intent comes with a non-refundable fee of 5,000 Ghana Cedis. This new directive applies universally across the party, including all sitting Members of Parliament.

Kodua Frimpong cautioned that declaring an intention to run does not equate to the opening of nominations or grant aspirants permission to begin campaigning. The party will thoroughly vet applicants against constitutional and national legal requirements. He clarified that the party is still not open for nominations and is not asking people to campaign.

As part of the reorganization and preparation roadmap, the party has zoned the country to roll out training and capacity-building workshops for stakeholders and aspirants. The Northern Zone's workshop dates will follow the initial portal rollout, while the Middle Zone is scheduled for December 8th to 11th, and the Southern Zone for December 15th to 18th.

The NPP leadership expressed gratitude to key stakeholders, including the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission, for their roles in managing recent peaceful internal elections. They also commended the rank and file for their continuous commitment to the party's reorganization agenda toward 2028.

The introduction of the "Declaration of Intent" portal marks a significant innovation in the NPP's selection process. The party aims to ensure a peaceful and united election in 2028 by implementing these new measures. Prospective aspirants are expected to take advantage of this opportunity to express their interest in contesting on the NPP ticket.
