Covenant University's Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, has stated that the institution is destined for global recognition, comparable to Harvard University. Speaking at the university's 24th Founder's Day Anniversary Thanksgiving, Oyedepo attributed the institution's growth and academic achievements to divine favor and adherence to its founding vision. He expressed confidence that nothing can stop the university's advancement.
Oyedepo recalled his encounter with God on February 12, 2002, at NICON Hotel, Abuja, when he sought divine confirmation on the institution's ownership and future. The response, "It is I," reinforced his conviction that the university was established for a divine purpose. This encounter has guided the university's development, with Oyedepo describing it as a divine project with a secured future.
The Chancellor emphasized the importance of thanksgiving as a spiritual force that strengthens believers, facilitates breakthroughs, and sustains progress. He drew lessons from biblical accounts, illustrating how gratitude can bring abundance in situations of apparent insufficiency. Oyedepo warned against murmuring and complaining, saying a grateful disposition helps believers remain strong even in difficult circumstances.
Oyedepo urged students to make spirituality the foundation of their academic pursuits, personal development, and future accomplishments. He described spirituality as central to the university's core values, encouraging students to maintain a close relationship with Jesus Christ. This, he believes, will contribute to fulfilling and impactful lives.
The Pro-Chancellor, Pastor (Mrs) Faith Oyedepo, acknowledged God's faithfulness and celebrated the institution's progress. She described gratitude as a conscious recognition of God's goodness, adding that the university's achievements reflect divine grace. Faith Oyedepo cited the introduction of new academic programs as evidence of the university's expansion and determination to broaden access to professional education.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, attributed the university's achievements to God's grace, acknowledging the contributions of the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor to sustaining its founding vision. He highlighted the university's performance in national, regional, and global rankings, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence and cutting-edge research.
The university's achievements over the preceding year were highlighted, including institutional awards, research and innovation breakthroughs, and improved international visibility.
