The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to elect a new General Secretary on October 3 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The position is crucial, as it oversees the party's day-to-day administration and wields significant influence in state affairs. Incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong is facing competition from three other aspirants: Sylvester Tetteh, Eugene Boakye Antwi, and Dr. Charles Dwamena.

Sylvester Tetteh, contesting with ballot number one, boasts extensive party experience from the grassroots to the national level. His journey in politics includes being a polling station executive, Constituency Secretary for Ningo Prampram, TESCON President, and Parliamentary Candidate for Ningo Prampram in 2012 and 2016. Tetteh's campaign message focuses on bold, tech-driven, and innovative leadership, emphasizing the need for "innovation, energy, and unity" within the party.

Eugene Boakye Antwi, with ballot number two, has a background as a banker, businessman, and politician. He holds a Higher National Diploma from Westminster College in the UK and a BA in Business Administration from the University of Westminster. Antwi's political experience includes being a former MP for Subin Constituency and Deputy Minister for Works and Housing. His campaign, built around a 5-point UNITE agenda, aims to unite the party, nurture grassroots support, improve discipline, transform engagement, and execute a winning strategy for 2028.

Justin Frimpong Kodua, the incumbent General Secretary and contesting with ballot number three, has a background as a lawyer and politician. Elected in July 2022, Kodua has implemented several reforms, including the expansion of the electoral college and the strengthening of the legal directorate. His campaign message, encapsulated in the slogan "Prepared. Well-positioned. Focused. REBUILD," emphasizes early parliamentary primaries, improved resource distribution, and party unity.

Dr. Charles Dwamena, known as "Dr. China" and contesting with ballot number four, has a diverse background as a medical doctor, teacher, diplomat, and business administrator. Currently the National Treasurer of NPP, Dwamena has been credited with digitizing party dues collection and increasing financial contributions. His campaign strategy, "WILD + S," focuses on welfare, improved communication, research and digital solutions, discipline, and security.

The NPP's General Secretary election is significant, given the party's recent performance in the 2024 elections, where they lost 50 parliamentary seats, resulting in the NDC having a two-thirds majority. The new General Secretary will play a crucial role in rebuilding the party's structures and strategy for the 2028 elections.

According to a recent survey, incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong is leading among delegates with 60%. The election outcome will determine the NPP's future direction and potentially impact Ghana's political landscape.
