The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected John Boadu as its National Chairman, leading a new team of executives to steer the party's affairs for four years and spearhead its bid to return to power in 2028. Boadu, a former General Secretary of the party, succeeds Stephen Ayesu Ntim, who did not seek re-election. The election took place at the NPP's National Executive Conference in Kumasi on Saturday.
John Boadu polled 2,888 votes to defeat his closest contender, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, who secured 2,408 votes, and former National Chairman Paul Afoko, who obtained 790 votes. Another candidate, Samuel Kenneth Adolphus Ben Crabbe, polled 41 votes. Boadu's election marks a significant change in the party's leadership as it seeks to reorganize its structures and strengthen its base ahead of the 2028 general election.
Justin Kodua Frimpong retained the position of General Secretary with 4,486 votes, ahead of Sylvester Tetteh, who obtained 1,340 votes, and Eugene Boakye Antwi with 162 votes. Dr. Charles Dwamena polled 129 votes. The National Vice Chairperson positions were filled by Kojo Fosu Boadu with 3,160 votes, Henry Nana Boakye with 3,061 votes, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid with 2,956 votes, and Nana Akomea with 2,987 votes.
Other key positions were also filled, with Alfred Kojo Thompson elected as National Treasurer with 2,243 votes. Tahiru Issahaku Moomin obtained 1,605 votes, Collins Nuamah polled 1,582 votes, and Ruka Saida Ahmed secured 687 votes. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover emerged as the National Organiser with 2,964 votes, followed by Ali Maiga Halidu with 2,231 votes.
The elections also saw Abagna Yakubu Fusani win the Youth Organiser position with 1,550 votes, while Clement Opoku Gyamfi polled 631 votes. Mavis Hawa Koomson was elected Women's Organiser with 782 votes, defeating Safia Mohammed, who obtained 429 votes. Mohammed Ali Suraj secured 372 votes to win the National Nasara Organiser position.
The new executives are expected to provide strategic direction for the party over the next four years. Their mandate includes rebuilding the party and positioning it to compete for political power in 2028. Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye was also elected as Communication Director. The party is seeking to reorganize its structures and strengthen its base ahead of the 2028 general election.
The NPP's National Executive Conference in Kumasi saw a total of 17 positions filled. The party's leadership has expressed confidence in the new team's ability to lead the party to victory in 2028. The new executives will work to implement the party's policies and programs, and engage with the electorate to build support for the party.
