The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bongo, Ghana, has challenged Member of Parliament Charles Bawa-Duah to acknowledge the role of the previous administration in initiating the Ganlagirum electrification project. The NPP claims the project was started by former Nayorigo Electoral Area Assembly Member Lawrence Ake-emah-kapoe under the previous NPP administration.

According to the NPP's Communications Officer, Agengre Daniel Asebila, Ake-emah-kapoe began the process by engaging the then Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy and the former Bongo District Chief Executive to seek electricity connections for the communities. Ake-emah-kapoe was directed to submit a formal application to the Minister for Energy, endorsed by traditional leaders, which he prepared and submitted.

The NPP said the submission of the application set in motion the processes that led to the electrification works in Ganlagirum and Bungu/Asasibokom. Two contractors, including Daniel Abatara, were engaged to undertake the projects. Ake-emah-kapoe continued to facilitate engagements between the contractors and other stakeholders even after leaving the Assembly.

The NPP's criticism follows a recent visit by MP Bawa-Duah to Ganlagirum, during which he presented the electrification project as an achievement of the current administration without acknowledging earlier efforts. The party alleges that Bawa-Duah, the District Chief Executive, and the current administration are taking credit for a project without acknowledging the people and administration whose efforts made it possible.

The NPP called on MP Bawa-Duah to provide an accurate account of the project's history and recognise the contributions of those who initiated the process. The party insists that the project predated Bawa-Duah's tenure and should not be presented as an entirely new intervention by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

The Ganlagirum electrification project is linked to electrification works at Bungu/Asasibokom. The NPP maintains that the project should not be claimed as a new achievement by the current administration. The party urged the MP to speak with facts and acknowledge the efforts of the previous administration.

The NPP's challenge to MP Bawa-Duah highlights the importance of accurate attribution in Ghana's political landscape. The incident underscores the need for politicians to acknowledge the contributions of their predecessors and other stakeholders in development projects.
