The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding elections for national executives today, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. A total of 7,163 delegates from across Ghana are expected to participate in the National Delegates Congress and Officers’ elections. This event is part of the party's preparations for the 2028 general elections. The congress will consider proposed amendments to portions of the party’s constitution and oversee the election of national officers.

Executive Director of Global InforAnalytics, Mussah Dankwah, believes that Boakye Agyarko's past comments may be hurting his chances in the NPP chairmanship race. According to Dankwah, Agyarko's relationship with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was not good, which may affect his ability to function properly as chairman. Dankwah stated that Agyarko is paying the price for things he said during the flagbearer campaign period.

Dr. Kwame Asah Asante, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, disagrees with Dankwah's assessment. Asante believes that the NPP needs Boakye Agyarko as their chairman at this time because the party is in disarray. He thinks Agyarko is a man of ideas and has the qualities the party needs, including being disciplined, firm, and focused.

The NPP chairmanship race is significant, as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections. The Ashanti Region has the highest number of delegates, with 1,122, followed by Greater Accra and Eastern with 773 and 732 delegates, respectively. The Savannah Region has the lowest number of delegates, with 184, followed by Western North with 223.

A total of 7,163 delegates will cast their ballots in the elections. Of these, 2,745 will vote in the Youth Organiser race, 1,275 in the Women’s Organiser race, and 858 in the NASARA Organiser race. The election of national executives is expected to be the focal point of the congress.

The party's preparations for the 2028 general elections are underway, with the national delegates congress being a crucial event. The NPP aims to elect national officers who will lead the party in the upcoming elections. Today's elections will determine the party's leadership and direction.

The outcome of today's elections will be closely watched, as it may have implications for the party's performance in the 2028 general elections. The NPP will be looking to choose leaders who can help the party achieve its goals and maintain its position as a major political force in Ghana.
