The North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 was launched in Abuja on Friday, with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, serving as the Grand Patron. Akume stated that the movement's primary objective was to mobilise grassroots support and secure a strong voter turnout for Tinubu across the region. The North Central is targeting the highest regional vote total for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The inaugural meeting brought together governors, government appointees, party leaders, and stakeholders from the six states in the North Central geopolitical zone and the Federal Capital Territory. The National Coordinator of the movement, Sonny S.T. Echono, said the platform would unite political leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and stakeholders under a coordinated structure ahead of the election. The mobilisation effort would extend to communities across the region through grassroots advocacy and engagement.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, described the initiative as timely, citing the changed political position of the APC in the North Central since the 2023 general election. Sule expressed confidence that the region's greater representation in key political positions could be leveraged for stronger political mobilisation ahead of 2027. The stakeholders scheduled a grand rally for October 10 in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, with APC members and supporters from the six North Central states expected to attend.
The stakeholders also approved grassroots advocacy tours and town hall meetings across the 19 senatorial districts in the six states and the FCT. These engagements would provide opportunities for the movement to take its message to communities across the region. A reconciliation committee was established to address grievances among party members and stakeholders in the North Central, aiming to improve party cohesion ahead of the 2027 election.
The movement also approved medical outreach programmes as part of its planned community engagement. The programme would include eye screening and treatment, cataract assessments and selected surgeries, as well as glaucoma and diabetic eye screening in parts of Benue State. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, pledged support for the mobilisation effort through collaboration with information commissioners, APC publicity officials, and state publicity committees across the region.
The North Central region comprises Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory. The mobilisation programme would continue through the rally, community engagements, and other activities as the APC prepares for the 2027 presidential election. The stakeholders are committed to securing a strong voter turnout for Tinubu across the region.
The launch of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 reflects the APC's efforts to strengthen its presence in the region ahead of the 2027 presidential election. With the grand rally scheduled for October 10 in Lafia, the party is poised to engage with communities and stakeholders across the North Central region.
