Nigerian troops have successfully rescued nine individuals who were kidnapped by suspected bandits in Kebbi State. The operations, which took place on November 3, were conducted in the Danko general area and in Sabon Tunga and Binoni villages within the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area. The rescue efforts were a response to a distress call regarding a suspected bandit attack in the Danko area.

According to Captain Tamuno Sinivie, acting media information officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops of Sector 2 responded swiftly to the distress call. The assailants had invaded the area, kidnapped residents, and rustled cattle, prompting the immediate deployment of troops to confront them. The military engagement forced the suspected bandits to flee, abandoning their captives.

The first operation led to the rescue of two victims, identified as Barbuga Bawashe, 26, and Barka Dakaji, 61. Additionally, 34 cows and 74 rams were recovered during the operation. In a separate operation on the same day, troops rescued seven other kidnapped victims in Sabon Tunga and Binoni villages. The victims had reportedly spent several months in captivity.

The rescued victims were handed over to the District Head of Unashi for reunification with their families. The military has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across its joint operations area. The successful rescue operations demonstrate the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military to combat banditry and other forms of insecurity in the region.

Captain Sinivie urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against armed groups. The military's commitment to engaging with local communities and receiving intelligence from residents is seen as crucial in the fight against banditry and terrorism.

The Kebbi State operations are part of a broader effort by the Nigerian military to enhance security across the country. Recent operations have resulted in the rescue of kidnapped individuals and the neutralization of terrorist threats. The military continues to engage with local communities, seeking to build trust and gather intelligence on armed groups.
