A 32-year-old housewife, Hauwau Haruna, has confessed to killing her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, in Bauchi metropolis. According to Hauwau, she committed the act after repeatedly seeing Jamila in her dreams attempting to kill her and her children. The incident occurred at their residence in Bauchi, where Hauwau and Jamila had lived together for over 16 years. Hauwau made the confession at the Bauchi State Police Command headquarters.
Hauwau explained that the dreams had been happening for a while, with Jamila appearing to her in various forms. On the day of the incident, Jamila appeared to her in the form of a cat, prompting Hauwau to pick up a food flask and strike at the cat. When the cat allegedly transformed into Jamila, Hauwau used a pestle to hit her, resulting in Jamila's death. The motive behind the killing, according to Hauwau, was to prevent Jamila from harming her and her children.
After the incident, Hauwau became confused and fled the house with her newborn twins. She initially intended to surrender herself at the estate police station but was scared of mob action and fear of them attacking her and her twins. Instead, she went to her parents' house, where she told her mother to take care of the twins before planning to surrender to the police. Her mother, however, stopped her from going to the police station and contacted her elder brother.
Hauwau revealed that she had previously shared her concerns about the dreams with her husband, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim (Askiya), but he had dismissed her concerns. Efforts to get a reaction from her husband were unsuccessful, as he was reportedly receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bauchi. The husband's relatives and neighbors declined to comment on the incident.
The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed Hauwau's arrest and is currently investigating the matter.
