The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, conspiracy, and impersonation. Adeyemi is being prosecuted by the Federal Government through the police for allegedly presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

According to the prosecution, Adeyemi conspired with two persons, identified as Femi and Anu, who are still at large, to forge presidential appointment letters, State House letterheads, and other documents, including a purported appointment letter bearing the signature of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. The charges, filed in November 2025, also implicated the two other persons.

The prosecution alleged that Adeyemi and his alleged accomplices conspired to forge presidential appointment letters and other official documents purportedly issued by the State House and other government offices. One of the documents allegedly forged was an appointment letter purportedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Adeyemi was further accused of falsely holding himself out as Director-General of the purported council between 2024 and 2025. After the charges were read to him, Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to all eight counts. Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that by entering his plea, the defendant had effectively put himself up for trial.

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs had reported the activities linked to the purported council to the Office of the National Security Adviser after identifying discrepancies in documents submitted to the ministry. The Presidency had previously disowned the purported council and Adeyemi’s alleged appointment, stating that no such presidential appointment existed.

Defence counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court that he had filed and served the prosecution with an application seeking bail for his client. Justice Umar thereafter ordered that Adeyemi be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The judge adjourned the matter until October 12, 2026, for trial and hearing of the bail application.

The criminal proceedings followed controversy over the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Adeyemi’s claim to head the organisation. Adeyemi, however, has denied wrongdoing and has maintained that he is prepared to defend himself against the allegations.
