The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has launched a public digital postcode finder, aiming to improve delivery services and reduce lost packages. The new system assigns an 11-character reference code to addressable buildings, allowing individuals to find and share their codes free of charge. This initiative is part of Nigeria's efforts to enhance its postal services and make deliveries more efficient. The digital postcode finder is accessible through NIPOST's website and Android app.

The National Digital Alphanumeric Post-code system identifies buildings with a unique 11-character code, comprising the state, local government area, district, area, and building. The public finder offers three search methods: using a person's location, a Google Maps link, or a typed address. Residents and businesses sharing a property can use the same reference code, which can be shared with delivery services to ensure accurate package delivery.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and telecom operators have scheduled October 1 for the start of a free educational-data scheme. The scheme will provide eligible users with up to 100MB daily for approved learning platforms through participating operators. This arrangement, known as zero-rating, allows approved educational traffic to be accessed without the usual data charge, within the allowance.

The educational scheme is designed to support learners by providing free access to educational resources. Eligible categories include digital libraries, learning-management systems, teacher-development resources, and vocational-training platforms. The NCC and Federal Ministry of Education jointly approve participating platforms, and several have already been approved.

The effectiveness of the educational scheme will depend on the content and usage. The NCC is encouraging platforms to reduce advertisements and unnecessary data consumption, while monitoring availability, usage, and complaints. The scheme's impact on digital exclusion and education will be closely watched.

NIPOST's digital postcode finder and the NCC's educational-data scheme are separate initiatives aimed at addressing everyday difficulties in Nigeria. The postcode finder is expected to improve delivery services, while the educational scheme aims to make educational resources more accessible. Both initiatives are at different stages of public verification.

The rollout of these digital services is part of Nigeria's efforts to enhance its digital infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its citizens. The success of these initiatives will depend on their implementation, adoption, and impact on the target audience. Key stakeholders will be monitoring their progress and effectiveness.
