The Olu of Imasayi, Oba Lukman Kuoye, has expressed confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu, stating that Nigeria is gradually moving towards economic recovery. During a press conference at his palace in Imasayi, Ogun State, Kuoye highlighted the impact of ongoing Federal Government projects, particularly road reconstruction and rehabilitation, which are visible along major routes linking communities in Ogun State and other parts of the country.
According to Kuoye, a trip through Atan, Agbara, Olorule-Meji, and Imeko-Afon along the coastal highway would demonstrate the infrastructure development taking place under the Tinubu administration. He acknowledged that the economic reforms being implemented could take time to produce widespread benefits, stressing that there was no magic formula for transforming the country within a short period. Kuoye expressed optimism that the economy would improve significantly in the coming years.
Kuoye, who previously served in politics under the Peoples Democratic Party, praised Tinubu for his political track record and ability to groom others. He disclosed that he had always admired Tinubu and believed that if there were more leaders like him in Nigerian politics, the country would be better off. Kuoye emphasized that Tinubu was working to fundamentally restructure the economy, which might take time but would ultimately yield positive results.
The traditional ruler advised Nigerian politicians against desperation for political positions, stressing the importance of accepting that leadership positions are ultimately determined by God. He shared his experience as a former vice chairman of Ado-Odo Local Government Area of Ogun State, where he declined an opportunity to continue in political office and instead applied for employment, eventually being appointed by the National Identity Management Commission.
Kuoye urged politicians to prepare themselves for life beyond elective or political appointments, having an alternative career or source of livelihood to reduce desperation and unhealthy rivalry. He encouraged politicians to return to their businesses and professions after completing their appointments or elective positions, rather than continuously struggling for political office. This approach, he believed, would promote healthy competition and respect for the timing of leadership.
On Nigeria's forthcoming 66th Independence anniversary, Kuoye noted that Nigerians now had more reasons to celebrate, citing reduced political tension and renewed economic activities. He also mentioned improved electricity supply as one of the developments Nigerians could observe, saying there had been no need to use a generator. The monarch expressed his support for Tinubu's administration, stating that Nigeria was better off since he became president.
Kuoye concluded by emphasizing that politicians should respect the timing of leadership, recognizing that attaining political power must not be achieved by all means. He reiterated his optimism that the economy would improve significantly in the coming years under Tinubu's administration.
